Suspect Killed, 2 Officers Wounded in San Antonio Motel Shooting After 911 Hang-Up

Police say the encounter followed a disconnected 911 call.

Overview

  • The shooting happened just after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in a motel parking lot on the 6800 block of U.S. Highway 90 near West Military Drive.
  • SAPD Chief William McManus said three officers approached a man linked to the call who told them, "I'm not going back to prison; I'm not going back to jail."
  • According to McManus, the man ran and produced a handgun, an officer jumped on him, and two officers and a cadet fired their weapons.
  • The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, and two officers were wounded and are expected to recover, police said.
  • Witnesses told KSAT they heard one shot followed by multiple shots and did not hear commands such as "get on the ground."
