Suspect in Plot to Assassinate Iranian Journalist Extradited to U.S.

The extradition marks a significant development in the case against individuals accused of plotting to kill Masih Alinejad on behalf of Iran.

A suspect in the murder-for-hire plot against Iranian journalist Masih Alinejad has been extradited to the U.S. from the Czech Republic.
Polad Omarov, along with two other suspects, is charged with planning the assassination at the behest of Iran.
The plot was foiled in July 2022 when Alinejad noticed suspicious activity and authorities arrested Khalid Mehdiyev with a rifle and ammunition.
This marks the second attempt by Iran to target Alinejad, following a failed kidnapping plot in 2021.
Alinejad, a critic of Iran's regime and advocate for women's rights, expressed gratitude towards U.S. law enforcement and looks forward to testifying.
