Overview

  • Boelter approached Sen. John Hoffman’s Champlin residence wearing a realistic police uniform and silicone mask, shooting Hoffman nine times and his wife Yvette eight times before fleeing
  • About 90 minutes later he targeted former House Speaker Melissa Hortman’s Brooklyn Park home, killing her, her husband Mark and their dog after exchanging fire with responding officers
  • Investigators recovered five firearms, extensive ammunition and notebooks listing over 45 state and federal elected officials, indicating detailed, premeditated planning
  • He has been indicted on federal stalking, murder and weapons charges and faces state counts that include first-degree murder for the deaths of the Hortmans and attempted murder for the Hoffmans
  • A letter Boelter left claiming Gov. Tim Walz ordered an assassination of Sen. Amy Klobuchar has been deemed baseless as the FBI and DOJ expand their probe into potential extremist ties
