Overview

  • Prosecutors on June 3 charged 22-year-old Eduardo Roberto Medina-Berumen with two counts of murder with special circumstances, two counts of attempted murder of a peace officer and one count of assault weapon possession, each carrying a potential death sentence or life without parole.
  • He allegedly shot and killed 43-year-old Darius Wong, who was visiting relatives for a housewarming party in the 4200 block of Filhurst Avenue on May 31.
  • He then opened fire on responding officers, fatally wounding Officer Samuel Riveros and injuring Officer Anthony Pimentel.
  • Investigators recovered an AR-15-style rifle with two high-capacity magazines and approximately 40 to 60 expended shell casings at the scene.
  • Medina-Berumen was shot by officers and remains hospitalized in stable condition as authorities investigate a possible parking dispute motive.
