Overview
- Donyell Morris, 24, was found unresponsive on his bunk around 5:40 a.m. on Aug. 31 at the Eastern Correctional Institution in Westover and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.
- Maryland State Police launched a homicide investigation and identified a suspect who is also an inmate, but authorities have not released the suspect’s name.
- As of Monday, no charges had been filed and the case will be reviewed by the Somerset County State's Attorney's Office.
- Police reported that Morris had been housed in a cell with another inmate prior to being found unresponsive.
- The case comes after other recent inmate deaths in Maryland prisons, including a February homicide ruling at Jessup where another inmate was identified as a suspect but not charged.
