Overview

• Juan Diaz-Rivas, 36, was charged on June 17 with two counts of assault and a felony hate crime for an attack that left a man seriously injured.
• Prosecutors allege Diaz-Rivas and about five others shouted “F— the Jews, Free Palestine” before punching and kicking a man and a bystander who tried to intervene.
• The victim fell, struck his head and lost consciousness during the incident on the 3100 block of Fillmore Street in the Marina District.
• Diaz-Rivas remains in custody and is due to be arraigned on June 18 as the district attorney seeks to keep him detained pending trial.
