Officer Pradeep Tamang was killed after a gunman opened fire during a fraud investigation inside a hotel room.

Overview

  • Officers Pradeep Tamang, 25, and Master Police Officer David M. Reed were shot after entering a room at the Holiday Inn Express in Stone Mountain during a fraud call.
  • Tamang died at Northside Gwinnett Hospital and Reed remains hospitalized in serious or critical but stable condition.
  • Police identified the suspect as Kevin Andrews, 35, who was wounded by return fire and is charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault on a public safety officer, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
  • Investigators say hotel staff directed officers to Andrews’ room, they learned he had an active DeKalb County warrant, and the suspect opened fire after inviting them inside.
