Suspect Arrested in Knife Attack on Jogger in Gard

A 25-year-old man has been detained in connection with the violent assault of a 44-year-old woman in Vergèze last week.

A 44-year-old woman was attacked with a knife on January 11 while jogging in a park in Vergèze, near Nîmes, resulting in severe injuries to her back and throat.
The suspect, a 25-year-old man living near the scene of the attack, was arrested on January 17 and is currently in police custody.
The victim's condition, initially critical, stabilized after receiving emergency medical care following the attack.
Authorities launched an extensive investigation involving local gendarmerie units, drones, helicopters, and canine teams, as well as a public call for witnesses.
The investigation, classified as an attempted homicide, is ongoing, with the suspect's motivations still unknown.
