Overview
- Around 2:40 a.m., a white sedan struck the staffed security gate at the FBI’s Pittsburgh field office, the driver placed an American flag on the damaged gate, and then fled on foot.
- Authorities identified the suspect as Donald Henson of Penn Hills, described by the FBI as a former service member with a history of mental-health issues.
- Henson was taken into custody after 10 a.m. and is being held; an affidavit says he later said he acted to “make a statement” and invoked the phrase “sic semper tyrannis.”
- A bomb squad examined the vehicle, investigators noted messages on its windows, no explosives were found, and no injuries were reported.
- Officials initially labeled the crash a targeted “act of terror” against the FBI, though a bureau spokesperson later said the case is not being treated as terrorism as charges proceed.
