Survey: Social Media Is Filling Argentina’s Financial Education Void for Youth, With Elevated Fraud Risk

With school lessons largely absent, IPSOS–Santander finds young respondents facing frequent scams.

Overview

  • One in three Argentines aged 16–24 now learn about money from influencers or platforms, according to a 20,000-respondent, 10-country study.
  • Seven in ten reported attempted digital scams, and nearly one in four said they were successfully defrauded online.
  • Although 61% claim financial knowledge, only 11% feel truly informed, and just 27% in Argentina answered a basic inflation question correctly.
  • Schools provided no finance instruction for 86% of respondents, with cost (44%) and lack of time (31%) cited as barriers to formal training.
  • Nine in ten see banks as key to financial education, and Santander points to workshops, digital materials, and anti-fraud programs targeting youth and seniors.
