Overview

  • 68 percent of respondents said they have not changed their grilling habits due to climate change, while only 9 percent reported making adjustments.
  • About 32 percent of Germans view climate protection as not at all important when deciding to grill, compared to just 5 percent who consider it very important.
  • The Umweltbundesamt warns that charcoal may contain wood from ecologically valuable tropical forests and advises choosing fuels with FSC or Naturland certification.
  • Livestock farming contributes roughly one-sixth of global greenhouse gas emissions, making the choice of grilled food more impactful than the cooking method.
  • Among the 9 percent who did change their routines, 47 percent now grill less often and 45 percent have switched to electric or gas grills.
