A business owned by a cousin of murdered pro-Khalistan figure Hardeep Singh Nijjar was fired upon in the early hours of Thursday, the latest in a series of such incidents targeting prominent Indo-Canadian businessmen in the area.

Overview

  • On June 19 at around 3 am, Surrey Police responded to gunfire at Nijjar Trucking in northwest Surrey, finding multiple bullet casings and damage to vehicles and buildings but no injuries.
  • The shooting took place less than 24 hours after suspects attempted to use gasoline to damage company vehicles before being driven off by on-site security.
  • Owner Raghbir Singh Nijjar alleges that the India-based Lawrence Bishnoi gang has been demanding money and recruiting international students to carry out threats and violent acts.
  • Other recent attacks include shootings at Satish Kumar’s banquet hall and the June 11 killing of Abbotsford businessman Satwinder Sharma, highlighting a pattern of violence against South Asian entrepreneurs.
