Overview

  • FPDT members showcased that over 1,800 hectares of the protected park are now submerged, including 100 hectares of former airport pile foundations holding about 3 million cubic meters of water at depths up to 7 meters.
  • Conanp reports current water depths of up to four meters and forecasts rises of two more meters by September, which would submerge roughly 700 hectares under 4 to 6 meters of water.
  • Authorities anticipate the flooded area surpassing 4,000 hectares by the end of the rainy season, with a potential to store up to 7 million cubic meters of rainwater.
  • Hydrological and ecological restoration has transformed the site into a thriving wetland that supports some 230,000 native and migratory birds and fosters the return of local flora.
