Overview
- Oakland police reported three robberies and attempted carjackings against ride-hail drivers near 46th Avenue and Foothill Boulevard after 9 p.m.
- In each case, suspects requested rides, claimed vehicle issues and then forced drivers to pull over before attempting to rob them or steal their cars.
- Two juvenile suspects have been arrested in connection with two of the incidents and a third juvenile is under investigation for the remaining case.
- Officers are advising drivers to install GPS tracking devices and dashboard cameras and to trust their instincts by stopping only in well-lit, populated areas.
- Despite this localized surge in ride-hail crimes, overall crime rates across Oakland have continued to decline citywide.
