Supreme Court To Hear Plea To Stop Vacancies in Pre-Clinical, Para-Clinical PG Seats

Petitioners ask the court to direct the regulator to devise a system so postgraduate seats in these branches do not go unused across medical colleges.
The filing argues that multi-year data would reveal patterns in admissions, course demand, or institutional planning that suppress seat uptake.
In January, the court said medical seats cannot remain vacant and asked the Centre to consult states and other stakeholders to address the problem.
After the court flagged unfilled super-speciality seats in April 2023, the Centre proposed a DGHS-chaired committee with representation from states and private colleges.
