Overview

  • A bench of Justices P.S. Narasimha and A.S. Chandurkar scheduled the hearing following submissions by amicus curiae Gopal Sankaranarayanan.
  • The dispute centers on renewing the decade-old Master Rights Agreement that grants FSDL exclusive commercial and broadcasting rights for the Indian Super League through December 2025.
  • Eleven ISL clubs warned AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey of the “real possibility of shutting down entirely” as several teams have paused operations or suspended salaries.
  • Sankaranarayanan told the court that FSDL must honour its existing contract or the AIFF should terminate it and re-tender rights to avoid potential FIFA sanctions over unpaid players.
  • AIFF’s plan to run the league unilaterally remains blocked under a pending draft constitution by Justice L. Nageswara Rao, whose verdict has been reserved since April 30.
