Supreme Court Orders WBSSC to Publish ‘Tainted’ List, Lets Sept. 7 and 14 Exams Proceed

The move tightens oversight of the rebooted 2016 hiring after sweeping fraud findings.

Overview

  • The court gave the West Bengal School Service Commission seven days to post the definitive list of tainted candidates and said it is monitoring compliance.
  • The bench kept the written tests for teachers on September 7 and 14 unchanged and left applications open for eligible candidates until September 2.
  • Justices Sanjay Kumar and Satish Chandra Sharma warned the commission it will face consequences if any ineligible or tainted candidate is allowed to sit or is selected.
  • WBSSC told the court and media it would upload the list on Saturday and reported provisional figures of 5,303 tainted appointees, including 1,803 teachers, with admit cards already available online.
  • The Supreme Court’s April ruling annulled 25,753 2016 appointments for large-scale manipulation and allowed untainted teachers to continue in service through December 31, 2025, with the case next listed on October 8.
