Overview
- The Madhya Pradesh DGP must constitute a three-member SIT within two days, led by an MP-cadre SP with no local roots, joined by another non-local IPS officer and a woman Deputy SP.
- The SIT is to take over all case records immediately and complete the investigation preferably within one month.
- Arrest of Govind Singh Rajput is stayed as an interim measure, with the SIT allowed to seek the Supreme Court’s leave for custodial interrogation only if grave incriminating material is found.
- Witness-protection measures were ordered for Rewa Adivasi and Neeraj Adivasi, with directions that witnesses not be pressured and that no coercive step be taken against the brother during the probe.
- Citing conflicting accounts from the widow and the brother and procedural concerns, the Court used Article 142 to prefer an SIT over a CBI transfer and asked the High Court to hear the widow’s pending writ in light of these directions.
