Overview
- Uttarakhand must submit a CEC‑supervised ecological restoration plan for Jim Corbett Tiger Reserve within two months and complete demolition of all unauthorised structures within three months.
- Tiger safaris are barred from core and critical habitats and may only be sited on degraded or non‑forest land in buffer areas under NTCA’s 2019 rules with nearby rescue centres, capped vehicles and priority for electric or hybrid transport.
- All states must notify Eco‑Sensitive Zones around every tiger reserve within one year, declare reserves and ESZs as Silence Zones within three months, and prohibit activities such as commercial mining, sawmills and tree felling without approval in buffer and fringe areas.
- States are directed to map and notify core and buffer areas within six months, prepare or revise Tiger Conservation Plans within three months, constitute reserve steering committees, enforce night‑tourism bans and channel tourism to eco‑tourism models.
- The Court noted an ongoing CBI probe into the felling of nearly 3,000 trees in Corbett and criticised former Uttarakhand minister Harak Singh Rawat and DFO Kishan Chand for damage to the park.
