Supreme Court Issues Notice to Mohammed Shami on Estranged Wife’s Bid to Raise Maintenance

The bench questioned whether the existing ₹4 lakh award suffices, setting a four-week deadline for responses.

  • During the hearing, the bench remarked that ₹4 lakh a month appeared “quite handsome” as an interim arrangement and directed filings within four weeks, with the case expected to be listed in December.
  • The petition also contests the instalment plan for arrears and alleges large unpaid dues and high income and assets for Shami—claims he contests and which the Court will examine in the next hearing.
