Supreme Court Halts TM Krishna's Recognition for MS Subbulakshmi Award

The Supreme Court temporarily barred Carnatic musician TM Krishna from being recognized as the recipient of the Sangita Kalanidhi MS Subbulakshmi Award.
The decision follows a petition by MS Subbulakshmi's grandson, V Srinivasan, alleging that Krishna made derogatory and misogynistic comments about the late vocalist in his writings.
The court emphasized the sensitivity of the issue and stated that Krishna cannot use the award title until the matter is fully adjudicated.
Krishna's representatives argued that his writings were intended to challenge myths surrounding Subbulakshmi and not to disrespect her legacy.
The Music Academy in Chennai conferred the award on Krishna on Sunday, but the Supreme Court's ruling now restricts him from presenting himself as the recipient.
