Overview

  • The bench of Justices Aravind Kumar and N.V. Anjaria gave the Indore-based cartoonist 10 days to publish the apology across Facebook, Instagram and other platforms.
  • The court extended his protection from arrest pending compliance and listed the case after the deadline to monitor publication of the apology.
  • At the state’s behest, the judges clarified that the contested post cannot be deleted while the investigation by Madhya Pradesh Police continues.
  • The probe follows a complaint by RSS member Vinay Joshi, with the FIR citing provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act.
  • The Madhya Pradesh High Court had denied anticipatory bail on July 3 over the 2021 cartoon it deemed objectionable, leading to the current Supreme Court oversight.
