Supreme Court Delegation Concludes Manipur Visit Focused on Relief and Reconciliation

The judiciary emphasized constitutional solutions and collective efforts to address the ethnic violence that has displaced thousands and claimed over 250 lives since May 2023.

A team of five Supreme Court judges, led by Justice B.R. Gavai, visited relief camps in Manipur's Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts to monitor ongoing aid efforts.
The delegation inaugurated legal and medical aid camps, distributed relief materials, and interacted with displaced persons to address immediate needs and rebuild trust.
Justice Gavai stressed that Manipur's challenges can be resolved through constitutional means and collective action by the judiciary, executive, and legislature.
Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal expressed optimism about the progress of peace efforts while urging all communities to work together for reconciliation and prosperity.
Criticism persists over the delayed imposition of President's rule and the absence of high-level political visits, including by the Prime Minister, to the violence-affected state.
