Overview
- A bench of Justices Aravind Kumar and N. V. Anjaria adjourned the habeas corpus plea by Gitanjali J. Angmo to Wednesday at the request of her counsel, Kapil Sibal.
- In the previous hearing, the court asked the Centre to examine providing the detention grounds to Wangchuk’s wife, noting they had been served on the detenue, and recorded that he must receive medical care per prison rules.
- The Leh district magistrate told the Supreme Court that Wangchuk’s actions were prejudicial to security and public order, that grounds of detention were served within five days, and that the case was sent to the NSA Advisory Board.
- An affidavit from Jodhpur Central Jail said Wangchuk is not in solitary confinement, is in normal health on a regular diet, and may meet visitors under prison rules with required police presence.
- Wangchuk, detained on September 26 after Leh protests turned violent with four deaths, faces a petition seeking his production, access for family, and quashing of the NSA order as arbitrary and maligning.
