Supreme Court Clears Six More CBI Cases in Builder–Bank Nexus Probe

The CBI told the bench its inquiries outside the NCR found cognisable offences, paving the way for searches under the court’s supervision.

Overview

  • Justices Surya Kant, Ujjal Bhuyan and N Kotiswar Singh permitted six regular cases covering projects in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Mohali and Prayagraj after completion of preliminary inquiries.
  • The agency said the inquiries established cognisable offences and indicated it is prepared to proceed with search and seizure operations.
  • The new cases come in addition to 22 regular cases already registered from earlier Delhi-NCR probes under the court-monitored investigation.
  • The court directed Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati to share portions of the CBI’s sealed report with amicus curiae Rajiv Jain.
  • Petitions by more than 1,200 homebuyers describe subvention-scheme abuses, and filings by the amicus have identified Supertech and large bank exposures as central to the alleged wrongdoing.
