Supreme Court Allows Online Claims on Bihar Roll Cuts, Tells Parties to Help Voters

The bench insisted the revision be voter-friendly, pushing rapid remedies during the short claims window.

Overview

  • The Election Commission told the court it has posted booth-wise lists of about 65 lakh excluded electors with stated reasons on all 38 district websites and at local offices.
  • Excluded voters may now file claims online using Aadhaar or any one of 11 accepted documents, with officials required to issue receipts for forms submitted via party booth agents.
  • Political parties were impleaded and directed to mobilise their BLAs and file facilitation status reports by the next hearing on September 8 after the court noted minimal action so far.
  • The commission reported roughly 84,000–85,000 claims from excluded voters to date and over 2 lakh new registrations since August 1 in the Special Intensive Revision.
  • The EC attributed deletions to about 22 lakh deaths, 36 lakh migrations and 8 lakh duplicates, with the claims-and-objections window open until September 1.
