Overview

  • The Supreme Court admitted a second impugnation on July 14 filed by Poder Ciudadano against Gilberto de Guzmán Bátiz García and Claudia Valle Aguilasocho’s election to the TEPJF Sala Superior.
  • Chief Justice Norma Piña turned the new impugnation over to Minister Alberto Pérez Dayán, and the first challenge from ex-candidate Iván Bravo Olivas is assigned to Minister Jorge Mario Pardo Rebolledo.
  • Both cases may be ruled inadmissible based on the LGSMIE restriction that only judicial election candidates can file a juicio de inconformidad.
  • Observers have criticized the INE for routing the original civil society impugnation to the TEPJF instead of directly to the Supreme Court in alleged breach of procedure.
  • Rulings on admissibility and merits must be issued by August 31 with all court days counted as business days to meet the September 1 swearing-in deadline.
