Overview

  • The SCJN has formally admitted Poder Ciudadano’s impugnation against Gilberto de Guzmán Bátiz García and Claudia Valle Aguilasocho’s election to the Sala Superior of the TEPJF.
  • President Norma Piña Hernández assigned Minister Alberto Pérez Dayán to draft a resolution on the challenge.
  • Under the LGSMIE framework only judicial election candidates can file impugnations, giving grounds for a possible inadmissibility ruling.
  • The Supreme Court begins its summer recess on July 15 and will reconvene in August with limited sessions before the August 31 decision deadline.
  • If unresolved by August 31, the elected magistrates are scheduled to be sworn in before the Senate on September 1.
