Supplementary Elections Seat Four New Mayors in Paraná and Rio de Janeiro

Court-ordered reruns followed 2024 cassations of winners.

Overview

  • Jonas Mascarenhas Macedo (Podemos) won Três Rios with 16,182 votes, or 40.19% of valid ballots, and will serve with vice Arsonval Macedo through 2028.
  • Jean Carlos (Republicanos) prevailed in Cruzeiro do Iguaçu with 55.45% of the vote, while runner-up Dilmar Turmina’s candidacy remains under judicial review.
  • Joni Zanella Ferreira (PL) captured São João with 55.42%, and João Paulo Travassos Raddi (Republicanos) won São Tomé with 58.19%.
  • The elected officials will serve until December 31, 2028; in Três Rios, the court set October 29 for formal certification of the results.
  • The planned vote in Muaná (Pará) was halted by TSE minister Isabel Gallotti, who reinstated the mayor and vice pending a plenary decision.
