Overview

  • Phoenix sent its No. 29 pick and a 2029 first-round selection to Charlotte on June 25 to acquire 23-year-old Mark Williams, who averaged 15.3 points and 10.2 rebounds last season but carries a significant injury history.
  • With the No. 10 overall pick obtained from Houston in the Kevin Durant trade, Phoenix selected Duke freshman Khaman Maluach, a 7-foot-2 athletic rim runner who shot 71.2 percent from the field in his lone collegiate season.
  • These moves follow Phoenix’s June 22 deal sending Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets in exchange for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 draft pick and five second-round selections.
  • The additions give the Suns four young centers—Williams, Maluach, Nick Richards and Oso Ighodaro—in an effort to stabilize a position that has been in flux since trading Deandre Ayton.
  • Phoenix has also reshaped its leadership by dismissing coach Mike Budenholzer, elevating Brian Gregory to general manager and appointing Jordan Ott as head coach to oversee its rebuild.
