Overview
- Firefighters arrived around 11:10 p.m. Saturday to a one-story home on the 10900 block of North Scoville Avenue and encountered heavy flames and smoke.
- Thirty-six firefighters, led by Battalion Chief Scott Hilton, contained the blaze in about 30 minutes after launching an aggressive interior rescue.
- An 87-year-old man was found outside with critical burn injuries; four other adults were hospitalized for smoke inhalation and one person declined transport.
- Two men discovered inside were pronounced dead at the scene, with identities and causes of death to be determined by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.
- About 16 residents from two buildings on the property were displaced and received help from the American Red Cross and the Mayor’s Crisis Response Team, and a neighbor’s surveillance video captured the fire.
