Summer Streets Returns With Knicks 'Champions Way' Sign Raffle

A Knicks parade sign displayed at events with an Instagram selfie raffle links the championship celebration to the city’s car-free Summer Streets program.

Overview

  • The Department of Transportation confirmed the program will kick off in Queens and Staten Island on Saturday, July 25, with Manhattan dates on Aug. 1, 8 and 15 and Brooklyn and Bronx routes on Aug. 22.
  • Manhattan closures will run from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the three August Saturdays while the other borough events will operate roughly 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and major thoroughfares will be closed to motor vehicles during those windows.
  • The DOT will display a 'Champions Way' sign from last month’s Knicks ticker-tape parade at multiple Summer Streets sites and set up photo booths to encourage visitors to stop and take pictures.
  • Entry to the replica-sign raffle requires a selfie with the DOT-mounted Knicks sign, following @NYC_DOT on Instagram, and posting the photo publicly; the agency will run one contest each weekend and pick winners the following week.
  • Summer Streets opens more than 20 miles of city streets to pedestrians and cyclists, a program that typically draws over 500,000 people and aims to boost outdoor recreation, local vendors and neighborhood foot traffic while temporarily changing traffic patterns for commuters.
