Summer Childcare Bills Top £1,000 as Holiday Costs Surge

  • Families now face average bills of £1,076 per child for six weeks of summer holiday childcare, up 4% from last year.
  • Holiday club fees average £179 per week, rising to £210 in Wales and falling to £168 in Scotland after a 4% annual increase.
  • Childminder rates during the holidays average £234 per week nationwide, hitting £306 in inner London and £191 in the South West.
  • Only 9% of local authorities in England can meet at least 75% of demand for children with special educational needs and disabilities during holidays, with none in the East Midlands, East of England or inner London.
  • The Coram Family and Childcare charity is calling for increased government funding, provider support and an extension of the Holiday Activities and Food programme.
