Summer Camp Leader Admits Drugging and Sexually Assaulting Two Boys at Leicestershire Camp

Prosecutors will decide on a remaining denied charge as the 76-year-old remains in custody ahead of a 28 November court hearing.

Overview

  • He pleaded guilty at Leicester Crown Court to 17 offences, including sexual assault of a child under 13, assault by penetration, eight counts of child cruelty, three counts of making indecent images, and four drug charges.
  • He denied an additional charge of assault by penetration, with prosecutors given two weeks to determine whether to proceed; he is remanded to appear by video link on 28 November.
  • Prosecutors told the court he used a “sweet game,” lacing sticky sweets with sedatives or tranquilising drugs before attacking the children.
  • The offences are linked to a residential camp at rented Stathern Lodge, and the court heard he has run holiday camps for at least 27 years with a long history of children feeling unwell afterward.
  • The court also heard a stepson reported finding baby oil, Vaseline and syringes among his belongings, and a mother told Metro the camp was run by the Stathern Children’s Holiday Fund for children from deprived areas of Nottingham.
