Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group CEO Jun Ohta Dies at 65

Deputy President Toru Nakashima to Assume Duties Until Successor is Appointed

Jun Ohta, CEO of Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group (SMFG), died on November 25 at the age of 65 due to pancreatic cancer.
Ohta had been with SMFG since 1982, becoming group CEO in April 2019.
Deputy President and Executive Officer Toru Nakashima will perform CEO duties until a successor is appointed.
Ohta was known for his efforts to expand SMFG's international presence, notably through an alliance with U.S. investment bank Jefferies Financial Group.
Ohta also served as a vice chairman of Keidanren, Japan's largest business lobby.
