Sulejman Zekthi Jailed 11 Years for 100mph A500 Crash That Killed 81-Year-Old

Investigators proved he was travelling over 100mph on the Wolstanton slip road moments before impact.

Overview

  • Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court sentenced Zekthi to 11 years and five months after his guilty pleas to aggravated vehicle taking and causing death by dangerous driving.
  • He was disqualified from driving for 147 months and must pass an extended re-test before returning to the road.
  • Zekthi took a £105,000 Audi from his Wolverhampton workplace without permission and was seen weaving through traffic before exiting at the Wolstanton junction.
  • Collision data showed 102mph at 130 metres and 61mph at 45 metres before he struck a Nissan and a Vauxhall Grandland carrying Stephen Penman.
  • Penman, 81, suffered severe head injuries, was discharged from intensive care, then developed pneumonia and died on May 28, 2023; Zekthi fled the scene before later surrendering as police credited witnesses with helping secure the conviction.
