Sukhpreet Singh Extradited to Ontario in 2021 Attack on Missing Woman Elnaz Hajtamiri

U.S.-Canada cooperation led to his Texas arrest, with police still seeking tips in the missing-person case.

Overview

  • York Regional Police say Singh was arrested in Texas on Aug. 19 by the U.S. Marshals Service with help from Homeland Security, ICE and the Austin Police Department, then extradited to Ontario on Sept. 30.
  • Singh is charged with aggravated assault and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence and remains in custody in York Region.
  • Police allege he is linked to the Dec. 20, 2021 parking garage attack in Richmond Hill in which Elnaz Hajtamiri was struck with a frying pan and hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
  • Weeks later, on Jan. 12, 2022, Hajtamiri was abducted from a Wasaga Beach home by suspects in fake police gear and has not been seen; a $100,000 reward is still offered for information on her whereabouts.
  • Including this latest case, eight people have been charged in connection with the Richmond Hill assault, among them her ex-boyfriend Mohamad Lilo, as investigators continue to pursue leads.
