Suffolk Police Charge Wading River Teacher After Online Decoy Sting

Police say they have not identified any district students as victims.

Overview

  • Detectives arrested 37-year-old music teacher Mark Verity on Oct. 17 at a relative’s Mattituck home following a referral from Riverhead police.
  • He is charged with first-degree attempted dissemination of indecent material to a minor and two attempted sexual-performance counts, with arraignment set Saturday in Central Islip.
  • The Shoreham–Wading River district removed him from the classroom, barred him from school grounds, and says it has no prior complaints about the employee.
  • The investigation followed a Predator Poachers Long Island livestream that posed as a 13-year-old decoy and captured alleged admissions, which have been reported by media but not detailed by police.
  • Suffolk County police report no evidence that district students were victimized, and the district is cooperating with investigators and providing counseling resources.
