• They found a 44-year-old man bleeding from a neck wound and began administering aid when the assailant reemerged from nearby woods.
• Authorities say 29-year-old Emilson Yoan Ordonez-Vanegaz brandished a 10-to-12-inch knife and lunged at the injured victim, prompting an officer to fire.
• Ordonez-Vanegaz was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead while the stabbing victim remains hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
