Suffolk Coast Under Saturday Flood Alerts as Storm Benjamin Drives High Tides

Spring-tide conditions from Storm Benjamin have prompted gate closures with warnings to avoid coastal routes.

Overview

  • The Environment Agency reports flooding is possible from 10:30am to 2pm and again from 1:45pm to 3:30pm on Saturday.
  • High tide levels are expected at Southwold harbour, with locks and flood gates closed at the site.
  • Elevated water is reported in Lake Lothing at Lowestoft, and high sea levels are affecting beach access points along the coast.
  • Tide levels are forecast to rise around the Felixstowe Ferry boatyard and along riverside areas in Woodbridge and Waldringfield, including nearby marshland.
  • Officials say tides will remain higher than usual over the next couple of days with ongoing monitoring, and the public is advised to avoid coastal roads, footpaths and car parks.
