Sue Bird, Maya Moore and Sylvia Fowles Enter Naismith Hall of Fame

Their inductions mark the Hall’s first class to include three WNBA players.

Overview

  • The enshrinement is being held Saturday night in Springfield following Friday’s jacket-and-ring gala at Mohegan Sun, with presenters set to include Geno Auriemma, Swin Cash, Lindsey Whalen, Katie Smith and Tamika Catchings.
  • With Moore and Fowles joining previously inducted Lindsay Whalen and Seimone Augustus, the Minnesota Lynx become the first WNBA team to have four players honored in the Hall of Fame.
  • Bird’s Seattle Storm career spanned 19 seasons with four championships and league records for games and minutes; Fowles retired in 2022 as the WNBA’s career rebound leader and a 2017 MVP; Moore won four titles and later focused on criminal‑justice advocacy before formally retiring in 2023.
  • The Class of 2025 also features Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard and the 2008 U.S. men’s Olympic team, creating a high-profile lineup across men’s and women’s basketball.
  • UConn’s influence is prominent as alumnae Bird and Moore are enshrined and Auriemma presents, and Lynx assistant coach Lindsay Whalen will miss a Lynx game to take part in the ceremony.
