Substation Shutdown Briefly Cuts Power to 900,000 in São Paulo and ABC Paulista

Storm damage complicated restoration efforts, with Isa Energia Brasil investigating the substation failure.

Overview

  • Enel reported that a shutdown at an Isa Energia Brasil substation around 10:50 disrupted supply to about 900,000 customers, with service restored by 11:22.
  • Strong winds and rain damaged the network and caused tree falls, including two downed trees on Alameda Santos near the MASP, with no injuries reported there.
  • Isa said technical teams are probing the cause, and noted that load recomposition began immediately under ONS coordination with the distributor.
  • Local impacts were significant in the morning, with São Bernardo, Santo André, Diadema and parts of the capital reporting outages, including areas such as Jabaquara, Vila Mariana and Ipiranga.
  • A separate outage on September 20 left Borborema without power after a substation equipment fault, and Energisa said supply was fully restored around 22:00 that night.
