Subscriptions Open for 'La Presse libre' as Independent French Outlets Launch Joint Platform

The bundle aims to raise visibility for the outlets, using proportional revenue sharing with a solidarity boost for smaller partners.

Overview

  • Sign-ups opened on September 30 at €14.90 per month, with the price scheduled to rise to €19.90 on October 15.
  • Full access begins October 15 to eight titles: Arrêt sur images, Politis, Next (ex-Next INpact), Reflets.info, Mediacités, and the three Rue89 editions in Bordeaux, Lyon, and Strasbourg.
  • Project lead Daniel Schneidermann frames the initiative as a response to media consolidation, citing Vincent Bolloré’s purchase of the JDD as a catalyst.
  • Partners will share revenue proportionally to their turnover with a solidarity weighting, accepting less per subscriber in exchange for a larger subscriber base.
  • Organisers say an earlier group-subscription attempt failed about a decade ago, and this relaunch received a reported €60,000 grant from the Fonds pour la presse libre.
