Subaru Brings WRX STI Sport♯ Prototype With Manual to Tokyo Auto Salon

The Japan-focused concept restores a six-speed to the current WRX without any disclosed upgrades beyond existing hardware.

Overview

  • Subaru unveiled the WRX STI Sport♯ prototype in Tokyo, adding a six-speed manual for Japan’s VB-generation WRX.
  • The prototype retains the turbocharged 2.4-litre boxer engine with no new performance figures announced.
  • Early reporting indicates changes are largely cosmetic, including Cherry Red exterior accents, 19-inch wheels, gold Brembo brakes and adaptive dampers similar to Australia’s WRX tS Spec B.
  • Subaru also displayed Japan-only STI Sport R-Black Limited II versions of the WRX S4 and Levorg in Sunrise Yellow with STI parts and Recaro seats.
  • The brand highlighted motorsport entries, including a Super Taikyu racer running carbon-neutral fuel and a WRX VBH rally car slated for Japan’s 2026 JN-1 class.
