Stuttgart Zoo Reveals Genders of Two Koala Joeys Born in 2024

The zoo announces one male and one female joey, with plans underway to name them in collaboration with Australia.

Two koala joeys were born at Stuttgart's Wilhelma Zoo in June 2024 and first peeked out of their mothers' pouches in December 2024.
The zoo confirmed that one joey, born to koala Scarborough, is male, while the other, born to Auburn, is female.
The father of both joeys is Aero, a six-year-old koala, and the zoo is considering future breeding plans for the female joey.
The joeys' names will be chosen in collaboration with the Australian government, as the koalas are on loan from Australia.
Only four zoos in Germany, including Stuttgart, house koalas due to the species' demanding dietary needs, which require specific eucalyptus varieties.
