Sturgeon County Wildfire Grows to 390 Hectares, State of Emergency Declared

The out-of-control blaze northeast of Edmonton has destroyed one home and a family farm, with residents on evacuation standby as firefighting efforts intensify.

A large wildfire broke out in the Redwater Provincial Recreation Area on Saturday prompting Sturgeon County to declare a state of local emergency on Sunday as crews worked to get the fire under control.
As of midnight Sunday, a wildfire in Sturgeon County, northeast of Edmonton, had burned down one home.
