Stunned Seal Accidentally Scooped Up by Humpback Whale in Washington

A rare photograph captures the moment a humpback whale inadvertently engulfs a seal during a feeding maneuver off the coast of Anacortes.

A humpback whale, named Zillion, accidentally scooped up a harbor seal while feeding near Anacortes, Washington.
The incident was captured by Blue Kingdom Whale and Wildlife Tours, with naturalist Brooke Casanova taking the notable photograph.
The whale was using a lunging feeding technique to catch small fish when it mistakenly engulfed the seal.
After surfacing and opening its mouth, the whale released the bewildered seal, which swam away unharmed.
Humpback whales, which typically feed on small fish and crustaceans, have seen a resurgence in the Salish Sea over the past 25 years.
