Study Shows Most Community Notes on X Remain Unpublished

A July DDIA report reveals that voting bottlenecks alongside bot activity blocked most notes from publication on X.

Overview

  • The DDIA analyzed 1.76 million notes submitted between January 2021 and March 2025 and found over 90% never reached the public view.
  • Publication rates for English notes fell from 9.5% in 2023 to 4.9% in early 2025 while Spanish submissions rose from 3.6% to 7.1%.
  • Average time to publish a community note dropped from more than 100 days in 2022 to just 14 days in 2025 despite persistently low acceptance.
  • A crypto-scam bot was the largest English-language contributor with over 43,000 submissions, yet only 3.1% of its notes were published.
  • Following Linda Yaccarino’s resignation, TikTok and Meta are weighing similar user-driven context features as the EU prepares new DSA mandates.
