Study Ranks Lancaster Among Britain’s Top Postcode Lottery Winners

Researchers say the high rate of wins per household is driven by how postcodes are chosen in draws rather than better odds for individual tickets.

Overview

  • Two Lancashire postcodes — FY3 7LT (Blackpool Old Road) and WN8 8DF (Alexandra Close, Skelmersdale) — were selected in the Postcode Lottery daily draw on October 30 and earned residents £1,000 for each valid ticket they held.
  • Cryptocasino.se reviewed 53,972 Daily Prize results from January 2019 to September 30, 2026 and found the Lancaster (LA) postcode area recorded 433 Daily Prize wins, putting it second out of 120 postcode areas at 29.53 wins per 10,000 households.
  • The Postcode Lottery is a subscription scheme (commonly reported at £12.50 a month) that picks 20 winning postcodes each day for £1,000 prizes and runs larger weekend draws that pay £30,000 per winning ticket, with at least 33% of ticket sales going to charities.
  • Analyst Jonas Lindén explained the ranking is a statistical artefact because the Daily Prize postcode is chosen at random regardless of ticket counts and areas split into many small postcodes get more entries in the draw, so an individual ticket’s chance of winning is the same nationwide.
  • Regional reporting this week named 14 North West winning postcodes, and the study’s findings are likely to increase local interest in results while leaving the lottery’s basic mechanics and charitable funding unchanged.
