Overview

  • Dan Bowhay, a visually impaired photography student, spent 10 days travelling over 850 miles by public bus from Land’s End to Berwick-upon-Tweed to document accessibility challenges.
  • His pass under the English National Concessionary Travel Scheme covers free weekday travel from 9:30 am to 11 pm in England but excludes Scotland and Wales, limiting long-distance trips.
  • Of the 26 buses taken, only three offered audio announcements and one provided visual stop displays, with delays of up to 40 minutes and multi-hour connections.
  • Between These Times, a 10-hour slow-cinema film, captures the drawn-out pace and procedural hurdles faced by disabled bus users.
  • The film will show at AUB’s Summer Show from July 10–21 and at Aberrations Collective’s Copeland Gallery in London from July 31–August 3 as Bowhay urges greater investment in bus services.
